weekend

I can’t believe summer is winding down already!!!! I feel like it was SO recently that everyone was excited for Memorial Day and summer. It’s hard to believe that moving weekend in Boston is upon us (I’m so thankful I’m not moving…with 80% of leases in Boston a September 1 start, it gets crazy!). Fingers crossed for some good curbside finds.

I don’t have any big plans but I’m really looking forward to an extra day to see my friends (including L who moved here last night!!!!!!!!), watch movies, sleep in, and relax.
What’s on your agenda for the long weekend?
Psst: Also, I am excited to publish a new 101 in 1001 list on Tuesday…

wed / elie saab for brides

How is it wedding Wednesday again? Ever since some brilliant costume designer put Blair in a blue Elie Saab couture gown for her quickie wedding on Gossip Girl I have been enamored with his ethereal textured gowns. (Plus not gonna lie, I love that his name and mine are one letter off.)

While I’m a traditional white or ivory (or even gold or champagne) girl when it comes to wedding gowns, these could convince me that color is the way to go! I’ve always loved gowns with a 3D detail on them (like I posted about years ago right here).
Take a look at a few more of his stunners…

eat / grilled chicken with lemon basil pasta

As summer winds down, I wanted to share this yummy summery recipe for Grilled Chicken with Lemon Basil Pasta from the Pioneer Woman.
It’s easy, delicious, and light. I like to cut corners when I cook on weeknights or to save a couple calories and I learned the following: pre-made grilled chicken is a great shortcut…and using milk and half and half instead of heavy cream and half and half doesn’t work. The lemon will curdle the milk and it looks gross. You’ve been warned.

We’ve all heard this quote from Kate Spade, but does it ever really get old?
This snapshot from one of the KSNY stores is just too cute!

weekend

I feel like summer is slipping through my fingers and I’m trying to catch all the last little pieces I can. This weekend brings seeing some family friends from out of town who are looking at colleges and an event for work in Bristol, RI (I’ve never been!).

I hope everyone has nice plans for grilling, the beach, baseball games, pool time, or picnics in the park!

diy / sewing class boston

posted what feels like forever ago about the hand blocked fabric I ordered from Etsy to make Euro shams with. I started out by following a Pinterest tutorial and it was all wrong. (Note to self: don’t follow just any tutorial on Pinterest.)
I did some Googling and found Grey’s Fabric and Notions in the South End. I signed up for a 1 hour private lesson and liked that if I needed more time I could rent the sewing machine time as I needed. Ashley was really awesome and I loved that she showed me each step and checked on me (or I could call her over when I un-threaded the machine for the 10th time), but I had the chance to work a bit on my own.

The shams aren’t perfect (since the fabric is handmade, it’s a little tougher to cut in super straight lines…plus I’m pretty new at this), but after several months, I finally finished them and feel like my bedroom looks so much more complete!

Now I just have to decide which way to make my bed!

wear / wardrobe wants

The forecast in Boston today is in the upper 80s, but I’m already looking ahead to fall shopping (isn’t everyone?).
I’m trying not to spend a lot on clothes, but there are a couple things on my fall list:

Navy blue puffer vest {Lands End $39}

A fall/winter dress to fill in for my red Madewell Afternoon dress (wore it about 10 times in 3 months—worth it!). {Madewell $118}

And a dash of leopard {Steve Madden $80}
What’s on your fall wishlist?

Homesick a little bit. :(

wed / readings

"Marry your best friend. I do not say that lightly. Really, truly find the strongest, happiest friendship in the person you fall in love with. Someone who speaks highly of you. Someone you can laugh with. The kind of laughs that make your belly ache, and your nose snort. The embarrassing, earnest, healing kind of laughs. Wit is important.  Life is too short not to love someone who lets you be a fool with them. Make sure they are somebody who lets you cry, too. Despair will come. Find someone that you want to be there with you through those times.
"Most importantly, marry the one that makes passion, love, and madness combine and course through you. A love that will never dilute - even when the waters get deep, and dark. Do not settle for second best. This sort of love is out there. And I hope you have the courage to start over, and try again until you have found it.  This love is worth it, baby girl."

three little spaces

I am exhausted! I was invited to a party tonight and though I am planning on stopping by, I really just want to put on pajamas and a movie and curl up in one of these pretty spaces.

Happy weekend!

diy / wall art

I am still on the hunt for pretty (and affordable) things to fill my walls. Irecently shared my living room gallery wall. And now I’ve turned my attention to two key blank areas: the opposite living room wall which currently has a large South Carolina flag on it and the space above the dining table.
This awesome DIY popped up on Pinterest and I’m in love! While it’s probably more suited to a smaller area (maybe my bathroom?), I love how easy it is.

Hint: You can likely find coasters like these at Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, Anthropologie, and Furbish Studio.

It’s #weddingwednesday! Yesterday Snippet and Ink posted a 40th anniversary so gorgeous, I simply had to share it. Here a couple of my favorite shots:

decorate / bar tray

I love this little bar vignette and it’s such a great reminder that I don’t need an elaborate bar setup to have a little home bar.
It’s been a bear of a week and I have to say I’m glad it’s over and I can put it behind me. Tomorrow I have a big event for work that I’ve been working on for awhile and I’m so excited to see it all come together! Tonight though it’s a glass of wine and a movie on the couch.
Have a fabulous weekend!

listen / bruno mars

I CANNOT stop listening to “Treasure” by Bruno Mars. I love pretty much all of his music and this doesn’t disappoint in the slightest. His modern take on old school music never fails to get me moving. What is on your iPod lately?

wed / signature cockail

Signature cocktails have been a trend for awhile in weddings and events. Some couples choose drinks that match the color scheme, while others choose to feature the bride’s favorite and the groom’s favorite. Another way to choose your signature cocktails is to pick drinks that relate to the bride and groom’s hometowns.
Since I live in Boston, I have to share one of my favorite cocktails in the city: the Boston Tea Party. I discovered this at The Marliave in Downtown Crossing and the mixture of tequila, earl grey tea, lemon and ginger beer is amazing.

Not big on cocktails? Try featuring beers local to the bride or groom’s hometown.
What drinks are you featuring at your wedding?

travel / san francisco

I am back to share a bit of my San Francisco trip! First up, I compiled a short list of some of the things I did…
Eat-of course I love to eat and this trip consisted of a lot of casual dining. Some favorites were Roam Burger in the Marina and surprisingly, the tacos in the cafe at the California Academy of Sciences. Don’t even get me started on In-n-Out! And sharing an ice cream sundae in Ghirardelli Square is always a treat!
Shop-I did my best to save my pennies and do only minimal shopping but I got two cute shirts at the JCrew Factory store and a nice neutral clutch at a great little boutique in Cow Hollow called Ambiance. I also loved window shopping along Union Street (not to be confused with Union Square).
Activities-I visited SF about 3 years ago and did many of the touristy things. This time, I tried to maximize my time with friends and family and include a lot of R+R. My lovely cousin was kind enough to take me to Domaine Carneros winery, L and I braved the Go Cars (which is hilarious if nothing else), we dropped in on two friends and another cousin at Googleplex, I had a great family day with my aunt, uncle, and 4 cousins, and I got to go to the zoo!

This is getting long, so I’ll recap the photos :) {all pictures via my Instagram}
{across from the top left: the winery in Napa / my beautiful high school friend C / the remains of my In-n-Out / me looking about 5 years old in the Go Car / a high school friend and a friend from Kindergarten! / bubbly tasting flight / I can’t believe I can say I’ve had friends for 20 years! / my cousin’s sweet puppy Teddy / beautiful flowers over a garage / my London roomie and hostess for the week, L / Palace of Fine Arts / mama and baby tiger / menu at Tacolicious}
Whew! That’s a long post. Thanks for sticking with me!!
