February Goals Update

I mentioned before that my February focus would be organizing and cleaning and decorating around the apartment. I’m wrapping up several projects I’ve tackled over the last few weeks and I’m excited to link up this week with Young House Love (for the Pinterest Challenge) and Love and Renovations (February Organize-a-thon).

I don’t want to ruin the surprise (ha!)…but in the meantime here’s a recent favorite interior shot:

Bedroom: Jewelry Dishes

I’m back (late as usual) with a look at the pretty bowls and plates I bought last week for my dresser top. First up, the Alphabet Tray from West Elm. It’s currently final sale for $3.99!

I also picked up a couple dishes from Anthropologie.

(I bought the second one down with six fish on it for $8.) And these tiny latte bowls in mint green (the bottom two in the left side stack) for only $2.50 each! These are perfect for holding bracelets, rings and earrings.

The last pieces of pulling together my dresser/vanity are a tray for my lotions, perfume, etc. and a couple photo boxes to store mementos. What do you use to corral jewelry?

I happen to have a slight obsession with big round dining room or kitchen tables. Some family friends of mine growing up have a huge round kitchen table and I think that’s what got me started. Their house is the type of place with the door always unlocked. It’s truly a warm, welcoming house for entertaining and family and friends and the round table reminds me of that.
The chairs are amazing too! I love the hot pink, but would probably stick to a more neutral color like navy or flax colored linen in my home.

Currently Loving: Ghost Chairs

I have a love affair lately with beautiful, modern ghost chairs. The first time they really grabbed me was in the Waldorf’s dining room on Gossip Girl:

The cushions are fabulous!! They bring a great level of comfort for every day.

These are pretty popular for events and weddings, but not quite as popular as chivari chairs or garden chairs. I feel like I’ve been seeing them more lately and the love affair continues. Check out this wedding from Style Me Pretty:

You can see the whole blog post here. I adore the way the clear chairs add a modern touch to the beautiful classic silver and white color scheme. Le sigh. I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

Today I went to Ikea on a quick search and destroy mission for the handful of things that I am getting annoyed that I don’t have. My budget is tight for decorating, but these few things will help me clean up my room a bit and for a grand total of $61 and change, I think I did a bang up job.

First up, an area rug. There are several reasons I’m so excited about this:

  1. It’s the first grey thing in my bedroom and I’m excited to bring in more and more of my color palette (grey, gold, and white).
  2. It was $19.99 for a rug that’s a bit bigger than 4 ft x 6 ft. That is unheard of!
  3. With hardwood floors (which I LOVE) and my mattress directly on the floor (not to mention a kitten who likes to run around), little specs of dirt, sand, and I’m not sure what else are constantly being tracked around on our feet…and then these specs end up in the bed. Gross. This should help put a stop to the grossness.

Second, a clothes rack. Since moving my bedroom into what is technically a the living room, I have been closet-less. Ok ok, my stuff is in what is now the living/my old room. However, it would be nice to have my clothes easily accessible and free up the closet for storage. So for $9.99, I have a shiny new clothes rack.

And last but not least, I bought four of these lovely wall shelves for $6.99 each. I plan to paint the wood the same color as the walls. I can’t wait to get all my books lined up neatly and get them off my dresser. All the surfaces in my room are covered in miscellaneous stuff and my goal is to neaten things up ASAP.

I’m glad my room is finally shaping up! A special shout out to my wonderful boyfriend who was master and commander of this mission and made sure we were quick and got me to work on time. :)

With a wink and a smile,

Ellie
