One day I would love a walk in bar/wine cellar. What do you long to have in your home? ;) and :)

This is so summery, but it sounds so yummy I just had to share! If you’re looking for a summer signature drink for your wedding, this is definitely a great option.

I’m not a huge apple cider fan, but this sounds really yummy!!

As we watch the snow melt (or fall if you were in Boston the other day…thank goodness I wasn’t) I would like to cover a few tasty fall/winter libations.
Irish Coffee

Kir Royale
Something about a classic champagne cocktail just seems so elegant and winter-y to me.

Apple Pie Cider

Hot Milk Punch
Esquire Magazine calls this “liquid Ambien”. Maybe it’s best not to serve it if people have to drive home. But in a venue where most people have only an elevator ride to bed, this sounds like a perfect accompaniment to some cookies as a send off!

Stay warm!

Since I’m itching for spring, here are some of my favorite spring and summer cocktails to consider. Click through for a link to the recipes.
Mint Julep

Bramble

Tequila Sunrise

Alcoholic Arnold Palmer

1 part Firefly vodka (I like the peach kind!)
1 part lemonade
a spring of mint

Now that we’ve talked about the parts of a cocktail, the question becomes how to pick one of your own. I think the first thing is to think about any drinks that might be special to you and your fiancée. Maybe you met over beer pong in college (I don’t recommend serving Keystone at your wedding though) or tried a specialty cocktail at the restaurant on your first date. Maybe the proposal happened at a vineyard or you always have a certain drink at his parents’ house. If you think about it I bet you can come up with at least one.
Another direction to turn is local. Are there any breweries or wineries nearby? Is there a popular drink? It can be a lot of fun to introduce your guests to the local libations. For example, Firefly sweet tea vodka is made in Charleston where I’m from. It’s become very popular to have Firefly and lemonade or Firefly mixed with peach puree.
Lastly, make one up! Have some friends over and have a tasting!
You also have to think of a good drink for the season and the feel of your wedding. You’ll have to come back tomorrow for that though :)

I think it’s time to talk about many guests’ favorite part of a wedding: the bar. Whether you have a signature cocktail and beer and wine or a full blown open bar with top shelf liquor, the bar is a great place to show some personality and inject a sentimental element into your wedding.
First let’s talk about the bases of a drink—the liquor. Typically you have:
The next important part is the mixer. Is it Juice? Soda? Both?
And then most drinks have another layer. Sometimes it’s a little lemon juice and simple syrup or Chambord or a fruit puree.
Let’s examine one of my very favorites (not easily found in the US I’ve found). I love Brambles. I thought they were a common drink, but since I got back from studying abroad I learned that they are common…in London. Anyway, a Bramble consists of gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and Creme de Cassis. Easy!
Next up in the series, tips on picking or creating a signature cocktail of your own.
